Bryce Johnson was a highly-decorated, champion pole vaulter from planet Terox.
Winner of over 50 Plateno Numisma, or Plasma's as they are known for the sake of brevity, while competing at the Inveterate Xenophilic Interstellar Assemblage of Athletes, or (I.X.I.A.A.), Bryce Johnson always knew that he was special.
Special, not only in that he could outrun, out-jump, out-throw, out-just about anything anyone else could do athletically, Bryce knew he was special because the boy the Universe of Immortals saw on the outside, was not the boy that was on the inside.
In fact, the boy that was inside of Bryce, wasn't a boy at all.
The boy, was a girl.
After decades of struggling with such an agonizing dichotomy, Bryce made the harrowing decision to undergo gender reassignment surgery. He was highly respected within the world of interstellar amateur athletics and was paid handsomely through numerous endorsement deals. But due to a severe problem with alcohol, money always left Bryce's hands almost as soon as it entered them.
His options for surgery were so financially limited because of his drinking, he was forced to choose a surgeon who was not actually a surgeon at all. The hardest decision of his life would be left in the hands of a former butcher/delicatessen owner from Zone H who had come to Terox to escape charges of butchering Komuna Organismo and serving the meat to his customers. Consequently, the surgery did not go as planned.
Bryce was not reassigned to the girl he had always hoped to be.
He was now something much more extraordinary.
